Although many of us know what D-Day is, and have seen pictures, not all Americans or even Veterans themselves have had the chance the visit Normandy or the French beaches where these young men changed the course of history.

I had the opportunity to visit Europe and France a couple of times before I went to Normandy. It was only at my husband Brian’s instance that we went to the beaches of Normandy during our 2007 trip to France. It was not until I saw it in person that I gained an appreciation for the difficulty of the challenge these men faced. Below and above, are some pictures of the cliff that the American soldiers climbed. Not only is the hill itself daunting, imagine climbing up that cliff, wet with equipment while the being shot at and cannons going off at the same time.
