According to the CDC, the rate of death from falls in seniors is 31%. Even more disconcerting is the fact that seniors do not know that they are at risk. Many ignore the warning signs. It is estimated that 1 in 4 seniors experience a fall every year. The likelihood of experiencing an injury increases with age, multiple risk factors, and the number of falls a senior experiences.
Risk Factors for experiencing a fall include:
- Prescribed 4 or more medications
- Cognitive Impairment
- Low blood pressure
- Slowed reflexes
- Balance disorders
- Visual deficits
- Edema or swelling
If you experience any of these risk factors, and would like to learn how you can reduce your risk of falls, contact Alliance Senior Care at 248-274-2170. Alliance Senior Care will complete an in-home safety and fall risk assessment.
